Monthly

We like to guide our team members, make sure they’re taking the path they want and can become the best in the industry. To support this we hold 1 to 1’s once a month. These can be with anyone senior to that person and who is committed to helping that person get where they need to be.

Preparation

Appoint team leaders to hold one to ones with their team members once a month. These should be scheduled in advance so each member can come prepared. Ensure team leaders have a private space to hold each one. We like to hold these over a game of pool to help the participates relax.

Step One

For the team leaders Draw up a rough base for the types of questions you’d like to ask. These can be simple like

  • How are you finding your current role?
  • Where do you want to be in 6 months?
  • How can we help you get there?
  • This is also a chance to find out how you can help your team, do they need training/new equipment.

Make sure you are able to make a note of these.

Step Two

Document each 1 to 1 (these need to be somewhere private that only senior staff have access) and make arrangements to action the points mentioned in the 1 to 1s, like booking training courses or buying new equipment.

Step Three

Reflect on whether these points have been actioned, if not why? If they have then find out how they have helped your team member.

Bi-Annual

For a more formal performance review double the time and hold them every 6 months. These are usually with more senior member of staff. This is where more serious issues might be dealt with and gives team members a chance to feedback about the company in general.
