So, this week is the last week for me in England. I’ve been working at VIX for 5 months. That’s 5 months and 1000 kilometres away from family and friends. I remember the first day when I arrived, when I put down my bag and coat in my room. I was thinking: “What are you doing you mad lad?” But, I don’t regret anything. It has been really good. English people, the culture and the food (well, maybe not the food. It is way better in Switzerland!) All in all it has been a really good experience!
What I Learned
I have learnt a lot of things during my stay. I learnt a bit of python and how this works to power the backend of a Django website. It was difficult to get into Django, because it was a lot different to what I knew in web technologies, but I persevered and can now use it comfortably. One of the biggest challenges for me was to build the website for a social media campaign, because I did it on my own. It was exciting for me because it was the first product that I’d created and shipped for a real customer. I managed this project from start to finishing, from designing the interface through to the frontend and backend development and learned a lot in the process.
"In English, Please!"
One thing I almost forgot, I came to England to learn English as well! Now I think I can speak fluently and understand pretty much everything. This doesn’t mean I can’t progress. For example, following a discussion between English people can still be really difficult, even more so when each person has a different accent!
A Great Experience
This internship was obviously really good because of the people and because the team is really friendly. I am a shy person and not very talkative, so I did not necessarily show it, but I had a great time! Thanks for that!
Although I liked my internship a lot, it was still a bit difficult to be far from home all this time. I had a good time, but it is time for me to go back to snow! Thanks again for everything!
